The guild of materials science & engineering was founded on April Fools’ Day in 1993 to replace a vocational subjects club called Dislokaatio. At first the board of Dislokaatio suggested, that the name would be Tampere’s guild of materials technology, but luckily the name ended up being the way it is now. Dislokaatio was one of the university’s oldest clubs and it organized the same kind of activities as nowadays for the students, who studied materials technology under the guild of mechanical engineering.
