Advocacy

The Guild’s role is to look after the interests of students studying Materials Engineering in matters relating to their studies. Advocacy work is carried out towards the Materials Science Laboratory, for example. An example of this is the regular opening up of the studies coffee time held in the Guild Room, where students can ask questions and give feedback to the staff of the Materials Engineering Department about the courses they are taking.

A student has rights and responsibilities related to their studies. You can read about them on TREY’s website. If you feel that your rights have been violated, contact the guild’s academic representative, and we will look into what can be done together.

The student advocacy team includes the guild’s academic representative, student representatives in university administration (hallopeds), and student council members.

Academic Representative

The academic representative’s duties include maintaining contact with the materials science laboratory and teaching staff, as well as informing guild members about study-related matters. They organize events such as feedback coffee sessions, the freshman student advocacy info session, and various academic info sessions throughout the academic year. Additionally, the academic representative represents the Materials Engineering guild in the working groups for degree programs in technical sciences and materials engineering education.

Feel free to reach out if you have feedback, development ideas, or questions related to courses, student advocacy, studies, or academic events.

Hallopeds

Student representatives in university administration, commonly known as hallopeds, represent students in the governance of our university. They act as independent full members of decision-making bodies, representing either the entire university, a faculty, or a specific degree program. Any member of the student union can apply to become a halloped during open application periods.

As a halloped, you have the opportunity to influence matters that affect our university community. If you’re interested in advocating for and protecting the rights of all students alongside your studies, this is your chance to dive into the world of student representation! You don’t need to be a seasoned expert in meetings or student advocacy; the most important thing is to be highly motivated to perform your duties responsibly.

Students have representation in various parts of the university administration. Hallopeds are involved in bodies such as the university senate, faculty councils, and degree program planning groups.

Feel free to reach out if you have any perspectives, ideas, or feedback on studying or the development of the university, or if you want to learn more about being a halloped.

Student Council Members (Edaattorit)

The highest decision-making authority in the student union is the 49-member Student Council, elected every two years. The council appoints the student union board and decides on TREY’s major policies, such as strategy, budget, and action plan. All TREY members have the right to attend the Student Council meetings.
